My New World

I just finished my third week of work. Not everything is going smoothly. The kids are not waking up quickly and bounding downstairs offering to help pack lunches. Dinner, too often, is frozen pizzas or something from a restuarant. Because of some of the extra work that is required at the office, I come home with phone calls to make or spreadsheets to up-date.

I have hope though that this will eventually work itself out and we will soon be running like a well oiled machine. Or at least one that doesn't break down.

Mission Accomplished

It's been less than four months since my last posting and guess what?? I will be joining the world of working-working moms. My official title is Deputy Director of Development and Membership for the National Military Family Association. I will be doing a lot of fundraising (individuals, corporate and grants), administering the spouse scholarship program, and preparing for the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the founding of the NMFA.

I have so many worries about re-joining the work force. How will the husband/kids/dogs/house do without me there all the time? Will the commute slowly eat away at my sanity? Fortunately my husband and kids are very supportive and we will all eventually adjust.

I guess I have to start thinking up another resolution... Perhaps I will blog more??? Don't hold your breath!

Happy New Year

My New Year's Resolution is to get a career before the year is out. Notice I said "career" and not "job"? With Chris talking about retirement and the kids looking to leave home for college, I am trying to figure out what Sharon wants to be when she grows up. I spent the better part of this week preparing my resume. Fortunately I have family and friends who were very helpful in providing objective comments and supportive advice.

I went to a head hunter earlier in the week who gave me advice as well. She mostly places IT people, so she didn't have anything to offer me. Chris found a policy analyst position on the Internet that is just perfect for me. I sent in my application on Thursday and kept checking the e-mail all day Friday to see if they agreed that I was a perfect match. Alas, no such message arrived.

Next week I will be calling contacts and looking for more job postings. I'm fortunate that I can be picky and wait for the perfect job.

Wish me luck!
